Custom Fabrication: What Is It & How Can It Add Value To My Kitchen?
The foodservice industry can be full of limiting factors. Sometimes, the equipment you need might not be able to fit the design of your kitchen. Other times, standard workstations can feel like a jungle that forces the workflow into a 5 o’clock traffic jam. In this industry, it is extremely important to stay organized and have a streamlined operation. Using generic equipment that is not specialized for your kitchencan cause kitchen nightmares. This is where Foodservice Equipment Brokers can relieve your stress.
What is Custom Fabrication, and Why Do Kitchens Need It?
Custom fabrication is the process of designing custom steel equipment from scratch to better meet the needs of a kitchen. These custom fabrications can be designed to fit perfectly around pieces of equipment like ice machines, dishwashers, frozen drink machines, etc. With FEB’s custom fabrication the possibilities are limitless. We can truly make accommodations for any specific requests.
Custom fabricated equipment allows the kitchen’s designer to build the workstation however they see fit. The designer not only gets the benefits of being able to work around the constraints of the building, but they can fully design their kitchen with a custom workflow in mind. The custom designs can be made specific for you, your kitchen, and your workflow down to the smallest details. The only true limiting factor is the designer’s creativity. Fortunately, with 30 years of experience, we know a thing or two when it comes to designing a kitchen.
The Missing Pieces
Why not go with the standard options and get prebuilt equipment? Working with prebuilt equipment can feel like trying to put together a puzzle with missing pieces. This can lead to a crowded, inefficient kitchen and can cause repercussions in the future. Choosing the custom fabrication route will enable you to put this burden on us, while getting a unique product with a strategic design. Instead of working with missing puzzle pieces, we can design the puzzle for you.
High Quality that is Refined for You
Everyone has heard of the saying, “quality over quantity.” In most instances, it is fair to assume that people prefer to have higher quality products rather than having a vast majority of something cheaper and more fragile. What if you could get the best of both worlds? Investing in custom fabricated equipment provides a higher quality, longer lasting product. Additionally, it creates the opportunity to strategically design your kitchen in a way that will increase the productivity of your workflow. Thus, resulting in a high-quality kitchen with the capabilities of producing high quantities of products at a faster rate.
Made Personal (7 Brew / Branding)
With FEB’s custom fabrication, you not only get the opportunity to design your kitchen the way you want, but you also have the option to go one step further and truly make it your own. We can implement your branding into the design of your custom equipment.
In one of our recent projects, we created custom training tables and worktables for 7 Brew, a drive through coffee company based out of Northwest Arkansas. The featured images show the custom fabricated training tables that were specifically designed for training new employees at their facilities throughout the United States.
7 Brew’s logo is displayed in three locations on these training tables. One logo is on top of the table next to the prep station and a high-pressure rinser. The other two logos are on the front and left side of the table, and both have a mesh backing to provide the main compartment with better ventilation. The logo on the front is located on the doors of the main compartment, which was designed to house a Manitowoc undercounter ice machine.
Additional unique features are included with this table. A custom drainage system was designed to support a drink mixer, which 7 Brew uses to produce their frozen beverages. Furthermore, a trash slot was included for quick and easy waste disposal. Another feature is a large storage compartment with two selves. Every inch of this table was carefully planned out to optimize 7 Brew’s workflow.
What Does the Fabrication Process Look Like?
From concept to completion, the process takes approximately 10 to 12 weeks, and we are there to help you throughout the entire procedure. It all starts with an idea! As previously mentioned, “creativity is the only limiting factor.” If you can think it, we can do it. We make sure every aspect of this piece of equipment is designed in a way that will best suit your needs. Throughout the design process we will ask questions like:
- What are the dimensions?
- What unique features will this piece of equipment need?
- Where will it go in the kitchen, and how will the equipment be used?
- How many people will be operating on and around this piece of equipment?
- At what point of the workflow will it be used?
Once a design is developed, we send it over to the drafting team. After the drafting stage is completed, we go through the revisions process. When you are satisfied with the design, we then send it off to be manufactured. Once it has been created, we send it directly to you and install it.
